The book is an elaborate version of the basic manthra ‘Navakshari Manthram’. The ancient saints considered Durgasapthasati as the body of the Goddess and ‘Navakshari Manthram’ as her soul. The manthra brings success in life and moksha at the end of it.
Devi Mahatmyam is a Mantra containing 700 slokas about Goddess Durga and is a part of the Markandeya Purana, one of the 18 important puranas of Hinduism.
As the mantra is considered exhilarating it is widely chanted in all temples dedicated to the Devi. This mantra is believed to have several mysterious meanings and interpretations.
‘Om…Sarvamangalamangalye Sive Sarvartha Sathike Saranye Thrayambike Gauri Narayani Namosthuthe…’ the most important manthra in the ‘Devimahatmyam,’ which is familiar all over the Indian sub-continent, and which helps one to attain the favours of Durga is given in the ‘Devimahatmyam.’
